Lauren McDonald was born in Rochester, New York. After graduating from Brown University with a B.S. Degree in Biochemistry she traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. McDonald graduated from Temple University School of Medicine in 1984. She completed her Residency in Internal Medicine at St. Paul Medical Center, where she was Chief Resident. She later was a Research Fellow in Nephrology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, and a clinical fellow at Parkland Memorial Hospital. She has been in Nephrology practice with Dallas Nephrology Associates since 1990.She was the first female President of the Medical Staff, at St. Paul Medical Center in 1998. She received the “She Knows Where She Is Going Award” from Girl’s, Inc. in 1999. Dr. McDonald is a member of the Links, Inc. Mid-Cities Chapter; a sustaining member of the Junior League of Dallas; a member of Leadership Dallas; and a new member of the Dallas Assembly. In 2001 she received an “Emerging Leaders’ Award” from the American Medical Association. May 11, 2006 she received “Women of Spirit Away from the American Jewish Congress. July 16, 2009 she received “Women in Business Awards for Changemakers” from the Dallas Business Journal.She is a past board chair of Parkland Health and hospital system. Dr. McDonald is an over thirty year member of the Links, Inc. It is a women professional philanthropic organization. She is currently the National black kidney care advisor. She is the proud mother of two adult children – Alexander and Adrianna. She is also a grandmother. When asked what her most important contributions are she replied “to raise compassionate, intelligent children and to encourage others to always pursue their dreams….”
